Can you guess what the most popular destination for a honeymoon is? Yes... Hawaii is by far the most poplar wedding destination place of all time.

However, everyone can afford to go to Hawaii. What other options are there? We were in savings mode so we wouldn't have a ton of debt waiting for us after the wedding.

We chose beautiful San Diego California to have our honeymoon. It's a beautiful ocean town just south of Los Angeles and has a nice romantic appeal.

Although we chose San Diego, I can't deny, Hawaii would have been great. It would have been costly as well.
Bare Necessities
If Hawaii becomes your honeymoon destination spot, the main airline to take you there is, of course Hawaiian Airlines. Look to see what kind of deals you can get by making sure you book your flight early. Don't wait. Once you have your wedding day locked down, book it.

You might find a good deal by going through Travelocity.com. Keep in mind prices changes like the stock market. We stayed at the Marriott Hotel in the San Diego in the Marina. It has a spectacular waterfront view of the Harbor. Of course, the service at Marriott Hotels is superb. Here are the 5 things you should take on your honeymoon. Maybe 6.

1. Travelers Checks are at the top of my list for sure. If you lose your money for any reason, you can get it replaced automatically.

2. Carry a bunch of single dollar bills to make sure you give tips to the bell-men, doormen, car valets, waiters and waitresses. You'll get even better service.

3. A cell phone is a must in case you have an emergency. If you don't have a cell phone plan that has rollover minutes you are missing out on a great savings. I hope AT&T never gets rid of rollover minutes. I have a ton of minutes left over every month. Right now, AT&T has a $99.99 Unlimited Voice Plan deal going. That is a savings for sure.

4. Romantic sleep wear is a must. The most popular for women is of course Victoria Secret and for the man you can shop anywhere. I prefer Macy's.

5. Make-up, hair care products and a cool looking swim suit to keep cool by the pool. One more thing, a really good camera to document everything. I have one of the first Canon Powershot Digital Elph cameras and still get great pictures from it.

Here are a couple of recent shots from my elf. Pretty good shots for 2.1 mega pixels. Try Amazon for good deals on the Canon Digital Elph. Once you get the essentials out of the way, look forward to having some romantic evenings with a sense of security.

If you want even more insurance try AIG Travel Guard. When you choose rooms try to get one with a view. We found out Jerry Lewis has a boat in the Marina next to the hotel and it wasn't long before we saw him walking down the board walk going to dinner.

We even took a tour around the Marina and eventually ended up at the world famous Hotel Del Coronado. It also has an enormous Hollywood connection. Hollywood has been making movies at The Del for more than a century. (The first movie shot at the hotel was in 1901).

In 1958, The Del was the backdrop for the comedy classic Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. The resort has also seen a steady stream of celebrity visitors from Charlie Chaplin and Humphrey Bogart to Brad Pitt and Madonna. Whatever spot you choose, be prepared and have the time of your life.
