Who pays for the wedding? Traditionally the father of the bride foots the bill. I don't know the deep history of the tradition, but all cultures have a different take on who should pay for the wedding.

Although tradition slants toward the Father of the Bride, or the parents of the Bride, both families pitch in to help pay for wedding now days. It seems to be a fair deal in my estimation.

It's a good thing that both families share expenses for the wedding. If you research tradition, you'll find this to be true.

It's a good idea to start off by sharing expenses so the parents of the groom won't feel like they've been cheated.

It can only cultivate a good beginning for the two families joining together. That's my opinion. We paid our way from start to finish. My father in-law pitched in and covered the rehearsal dinner and that helped us out a lot.

Couples that live apart from their parents have tendencies to pay about ninety percent of their wedding expenses on their own. We didn't bother to see if we could get financial help from Dad. We just planned the wedding we wanted and trusted God to get us through it all.

To be truthful, I really wanted to show everyone, including me, that we were independent and establish and could survive together as a couple. It was my first act of showing love toward my wife. Of course I was doing this for me as well.

I wanted to know that I could take care of my wife with no help from others. My wife's parents and her sister traveled from New York to Los Angeles to attend the wedding. I'm sure that was a major expense for them. I was happy they could come. I was able to get discounted rooms because I worked for the Marriott Hotel chain at the time.

The employee discounts helped out a lot. You don't have to be dogmatic about who pays based on history. You can make and establish your own traditions. Evaluate your situation and see if there is a way to share expenses equally. It was the first step we took in our marriage to enhance our relationship. Don't forget to get a gift for both Dads and Moms if possible.

What would I recommend as a gift? Well, you don't have to go this route but most men love to eat. I recently sent a gift to my parents in law from Omaha Steaks and they raved about the taste of the food and the convenience of easily putting a meal together. I also sent the same package to my brother that lives in San Antonio and got the same result.

Food is the way to any man's heart. A good meal is something any man will remember. There are other companies that offer similar deals online but Omaha Stakes taste great. The service is excellent as well. Always look for a good deal. Check to see if the shipping is free. Since my in-laws raved about it, I bought the package that had steaks, burgers and chicken for my wife and me.

The food arrives in a tightly packaged box filled with dry ice. We tested it for ourselves. One word to describe the taste - Excellent! The steaks and burgers are seasoned well and they are easy to cook. Just thaw them out and load in the broiler cook away. They also kicked in bonus steak knives. Omaha gets my vote as a great gift for any father of the bride
