Bridesmaid gifts and bridesmaids have a history dating back to the 19th century and Roman times. The law required a witness to be present at the wedding to confuse evil spirits so they wouldn't know who the true bride was.

Seems crazy to me but that's how we got to where we are. Who told the evil spirits the couple was getting married in the first place? Well, times have truly changed. Today's bridesmaids are usually good friends of the bride.

I don't think today's bride is worried about evil spirits foiling her wedding. If anything, she's worried about the wedding planner making a mistake along away. Bridesmaids help the bride with her needs before during and after the wedding. They usually perform tasks to help keep the bride on schedule.

Some of the tasks might include picking up dry cleaning to dropping off a pair of shoes to be repaired. Bridesmaids deserve a gift of thanks for the duties they perform.

Hopefully the bridesmaid gift you choose conveys your sincerest thanks to all who participate in you beautiful wedding day.

How many bridesmaids should you have? You can have as many bridesmaids as you like. Keep in mind, the more you have the more bridesmaids gifts you'll need to purchase. Don't let the gift stop you from have someone in you wedding.

This is one area where you can compromise on your wedding budget. Since you will be saving on other wedding items, you'll have a little more to spend on your bridesmaids.

Most brides choose very close friends to be their bridesmaids. This a very special time and why not have close friends share in your wedding day.

If the bride is close to her sister, she more than likely will ask her to be her maid of honor. If her sister happens to be married, the title of Maid of Honor changes to Matron of honor.

What an honor it is to be chosen to be the closes to the bride during her special day. When the bride starts choosing how many bridesmaids she wants, she should factor in how big her wedding space is.

The worse thing would be to have a everyone feel cramped. If you need to cut back without offending anyone, it would be the right thing to. That person can still share in the bridesmaid gifts.

Hopefully, none of the negative wedding scenarios happen and the girlfriends you choose to be your bridesmaids participate without any problems. That's what I hope and wish for you. Once you determine how many bridesmaids you're having, you're all set.

We didn't want to give bridesmaid gifts that didn't have deep meaning. Give gifts that mean something to you and your spouse to be. Maybe you have a favorite song the two of you share. Engraving gifts always adds a nice touch. It transforms an ordinary gift and can turn it into an elegant bridesmaid gift everyone will remember.

The gift is sure to be a hit if you personalize it. One other idea would be to take a thought you shared with a bridesmaid and have the thought engraved on whatever gift you choose; whether it's a mug or a tee shirt. How cool would it be to received an engraved mug with a photo of the two of you sharing a moment together. That gift now falls into the unique bridesmaid gift category and that's hard to top.

Do that for each bridesmaid and watch how word gets out about your unique gift. There are so many ways you can go. Each bride and groom are unique in their own way. The two of you will ultimately have your own thoughts of what to give as bridesmaid gifts. I hope I've inspired you to be a little creative. You will know what to do when the time comes always keeping your budget in mind.

Our most important goal was to give gifts that conveyed our sincere thanks and to make sure the gift truly commemorated our special day.
We could have given gift certificates to a department store or a jeweler, but what if only a few liked their gift and others didn't?

Since the focus was our wedding, the gift needed to create lasting memories of our wedding day.

We chose to give a personalized mug with a verse of scripture engraved on it. We had our names engraved on them as well. It turned out to be a great groomsmen gift as well.

The verse we picked meant a lot to us and our bridal party really appreciated it and the verse added an elegant touch.

We accomplished our goal; the bridesmaid gift was inexpensive and everyone loved the idea of adding a verse of scripture to the mug.

You can put a mug on a mantel or in a glass case to have it preserved. You could even use it on a desk as a pencil holder. Either way, it will help create a nice memory of any wedding day.

After we took care of the bridal party, we got requests from other wedding guests to get a mug. Unfortunately, we ran out, and it was only a matter of time before even more wedding guests put in requests to get a mug. We had just enough made to give to the bridesmaids and groomsmen and that was it.

If you decide to go the mug route, you might visit a local Kinko's and have the gift produced there. Have extras made because many of your wedding guests will surely want one. I think we even gave away the mug we wanted to keep for ourselves.

Whatever you choose as a gift, make it mean something to the two of you. Your bridal party will appreciate you taking time to have a gift prepared for them.

Have fun shopping for your Bridesmaid Gifts!
